Cleveland Cascades recently commissioned of one of our latest Cascade chutes in partnership with Reel Alesa.
The company wanted a highly flexible, and above all, transferrable solution that could remove the Alumina product from 4 tankers into a hopper, and then along a screw conveyor which was used to feed our Cascade chute. It was also vital that loading had to be as dust free as possible hence the choice of Cleveland’s unique Cascade chute.
The supplied chute is a 20m long, 750 sized Cascade chute, which has been interfaced with the Ship loader in order to effectively handle Alumina at rates up to 275 metric tonnes per hour.
The Cascade chute uses an auto raise and auto lower system for pile building, and the ship loaders shuttle and travel functions mean that with these features combined, the Alumina product can be loaded and distributed effectively to fill the vessel.
The unique Cascade chute arrangement, means that the Alumina which in itself is a very fine but aggressive material could then be loaded in mass flow, this is the transfer of bulk material as a single mass moving at a low speed, but high volume. Due to the aggressive nature of the material, Dyneema strops are used to support the cones which were also lined with Ceramic to assist the material. The Cascade chute has been proven to be the most effective loading chute for protecting against both dust emissions generation, and degradation of material particles. These two issues were at the forefront of thinking on this project, and resulted in the Cascade chute from Cleveland being chosen.
